Blink Indoor Camera Review

Blink Indoor is a battery-powered 1080p security camera that offers high-quality video and accurate motion detection. There are no wires involved, so it is easy to install, although, unlike the Ring camera, it requires a wireless hub. Unlike its sibling, not practical for outdoor use, the Blink Outdoor, is an Indoor model that works with Amazon Alexa voice commands and supports third-party integrations via IFTTT applets.

The Blink Indoor is excellent for those searching for a simple indoor home security camera that provides a hassle-free option for keeping an eye on items around the house, or those who want the flexibility of a wire-free gadget that can be relocated in an instant. If you’re looking for a person detection solution, you might want to look at Ring or Eufy’s offerings alternative.

The Blink Indoor includes a Full HD resolution and a 110-degree angle of vision, as well as infrared night vision and other useful features like movement detection and Alexa (but no Google Assistant). With a built-in speaker for two-way conversation and the supplied Sync Module 2, which includes a USB drive for local storage, you’ve got yourself an enticing combination for $79.99 / £79.99.

Price

The Blink Indoor camera is priced at $79.99, however, they are available through Amazon from that price up to a kit of five indoor cameras for $279.99.

Since the Blink Sync Module 2 will be included in the purchase, there’s no need to buy anything else – odds are you already have an extra USB flash drive sitting around something you can use for internal storage if you don’t want to rely on the cloud. If you really want a specific one, a 256GB USB Storage device is widely available for roughly $25 / £25.

So unless you choose cloud storage, you may do so as well, although it will be more expensive. The Blink Outdoor, on the other hand, comes with a 30-day free cloud storage plan trial, where it will cost $3 / £2.50 monthly.

Design

The new Blink Indoor camera, although it shares certain similarities with the previous design, this design cannot be used outdoors, the housing is white (unlike its black housing sister). It has two LEDs on the sides of the camera that indicate when the camera is on and when the night mode is activated. The Blink Indoor has a 1080p quality at 30fps and a range of 110º. It also includes a microphone and speaker to capture sounds indoors in greater depth.

It does not have a Wi-Fi radio, but the camera uses RF technology to connect to the Sync Module hub that contains a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radio to connect to your home network. The hub measures 0.7 x 2.3 x 2.5 inches and contains power and Wi-Fi status LED indicators, a mini-USB AC power port, and a USB-A port that can be used to connect to a storage device, such as a USB stick, to store event-triggered video clips (you will need to provide your own storage). The Wi-Fi connection allows Blink to work with Amazon Alexa to let you do things like arm and disarm the camera using Alexa voice commands, as well as stream video on an Echo Show device.

Despite its plastic construction, it feels durable and substantial in the hands, and the accompanying mount is simple to install even for novice DIYers, though we chose to just put it up on a bookshelf. The mount is also sturdy enough to keep the camera pointed in the direction you want it.

Perfomance

As a consequence of the wide-angle lens, there’s some distortion around the edges of the image, but this is to be anticipated and isn’t a major issue. Overall, the Blink Indoor’s day and night performances are remarkable, allowing you to rest knowing that everything is being caught in sufficient detail to be helpful.

The Blink Indoor offers a motion-tracking feature that may warn you when movement is detected, in addition to the picture quality. The program allows you to create dead zones, which is perhaps more beneficial for an outside camera dealing with things like passing vehicles and overgrown tree branches. With an inside camera like this, you’ll almost certainly want motion tracking throughout the full possible area to guarantee that any intruders are detected.

The indoor camera uses the same Blink Home Monitor mobile app for Android, Fire OS, and iOS devices as its outdoor sibling. The home screen contains panels for each installed camera, a panel for the sync module, and the Armed and Disarmed buttons. Each panel contains a still image of the camera’s field of view, a button to take a snapshot, and a button to start a live stream that can be viewed in full-screen mode by turning the phone sideways. A motion icon appears in the upper right corner of the panel when motion detection is enabled, right next to the camera settings icon.

As previously indicated, the Blink Indoor’s notable feature is it is up to two-year battery life, which is provided by a simple pair of standard AA batteries. While the exact duration may vary based on how much activity is detected and how often you use the live view function, we see no reason why the Blink Indoor can’t live up to its stamina-centric claims after a few months with it in our house.

Once it’s necessary to replace them, you may always go with rechargeable options to avoid having to buy additional batteries in the future, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative.
