Wyze Cam v3 Review

The Wyze Cam V3 offers a wide range of features for a budget-friendly price point. Its night vision is impressive, and its microSD card slot allows for local storage if you prefer not to use the cloud. In addition, setting up the camera is relatively easy, as is controlling it through the Wyze app.

The Wyze Cam v3 is a weatherproof, full HD camera that is capable of recording clear footage of your home or yard. Other cameras may offer a higher resolution for clearer footage, but Wyze’s full HD video can upload more easily on slower wi-fi networks.

Wyze Cam v3 is an affordable security camera that provides great value for the money but comes with some notable limitations. The outdoor version has PIR motion sensing which can be useful for detecting animals or cars in your driveway, but you’ll get a lot of false notifications from swaying trees and other movements. In addition to person detection, this camera also lacks some of the more advanced features found on other models such as facial recognition and custom activity zones.

Price

The Wyze Cam v3 costs slightly around $33 now, despite the fact that it was initially under $20, and maybe bought outright from Wyze.com, where it would be occasionally reduced, as well as online merchants such as Amazon. Even at its greater price, it is still less expensive than the majority of outdoor area security cameras on the market nowadays.

The Wyze Cam v3 is the latest version of this popular home security camera. It features night vision, two-way audio, and the ability to perform scheduled recordings when you’re not around. In the United States and Canada, the Wyze Cam v3 is largely available. Importing one to nations like the United Kingdom is feasible, although certain functionalities may be limited.

Wyze Cam Plus is a subscription service that turns your Wyze Cam v3 into an even more powerful security camera by offering person detection and unlimited recordings. That’s right: no more 12-second limit. For just $2 per month or $20 per year, you can rest easy knowing your Wyze Cam v3 will be recording every single second of whatever it detects going on in your world.

Design

Wyze Cam v3 is the first outdoor security cam to offer high-quality at a low price.

The Wyze Cam v3 is a connected indoor/outdoor security camera with IP65 water resistance, which means it can withstand dust, rain, and low-pressure water flow, but it will be damaged by high-pressure sprays or submersion. It can also withstand temperatures ranging from -5 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit, making it suitable for most regions.

The Wyze Cam v3 is tiny and square, measuring 2.05 x 2 x 2.3 inch / 5.2 x 5.1 x 58.5 cm (h x w xd). However, it can be lifted out from the bottom to expose a tiny movable base that adds up to an inch (25mm) of altitude.

When you reveal the camera, you’ll see a microSD card port that can hold up to 32GB of data. This gives you the ability to record continuously for at least three days. If you choose not to pay for cloud storage on a monthly basis, the cam will capture for no more than 12 seconds before waiting five minutes to trigger another incident. Insert a microSD card and configure the camera to record on event’ in this scenario, ensuring that the whole duration of the film is recorded to internal memory as a backup.

With heaviness of 3.5 oz (98.8 g), the V3 is readily displaced or knocked over unless it is secured. It includes a 3M adhesive and a tiny magnetic plate for adhering it to various surfaces, as well as a set of screws for mounting it down.

This, unlike wifi cameras, needs an adjacent outlet to operate. The Wyze Cam v3 comes equipped with a power adapter and a 6-foot / 1.8-meter USB-to-micro-USB cable, that is protected from water seepage by a rubber sleeve.

The installation of the Wyze Cam v3 takes only a few minutes, with the majority of that time spent getting the Wyze app and registering a Wyze account. The camera is simple to sync and activate due to a QR code provided by the app that links your device to your profile.

Perfomance

The Wyze application includes a number of handy features for safeguarding your house. Both these, though, require a Wyze Cam Plus membership, which may or may not be an agreement for anyone.

You’ll see a snapshot of each linked cam on the Home tab; you’ll need to tap it, then wait for the device to link and verify before you can look through it. You can alter the video resolution, record or snap a photo of whatever’s on the stream, enable two-way chat audio, and switch off the camera all from the same screen.

Indoors and out, we tried the Wyze Cam v3 and found that the full HD picture was clear enough to distinguish individuals you recognize, but not quite crisp enough to detect outsiders infringing on your property. It’s easier to obtain decent film if they stand motionless close to the camera, but they tend to seem hazy and oversaturated when they’re further away. However, for a cheap camera, it performed admirably.

In terms of night mode, the Wyze Cam v3 excels. As standard, depending on how much light source is present, it alternates between color night vision given by the starlight sensor and black-and-white infrared. The Wyze Cam v3 didn’t have quite enough light for colorful footage in a pitch-black room inside. When positioned outside, however, moonlight or neighboring street lights provided enough light to provide crisp, colorful film throughout the evening.

I additionally discovered that the 130-degree visual field is extremely outstanding. It could detect motion in a forty-foot area from side to side from fifteen feet away. Its design is deceiving, as it appears to only be able to see straight ahead while really monitoring a considerably larger arc. You can be sure that would-be thieves would believe that they are also out of sight.

In addition to the camera’s detection capabilities, it also has a fully adjustable field of view. The camera stands on a swivel mount, so you can tilt the camera up and down or left and right. It can rotate about 270 degrees side-to-side or tilt about 95 degrees up and down.
